Read Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno Read · PDF, DOC, TXT, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Free download Ì PDF, DOC, TXT, eBook or Kindle ePUB free ↠ Italo Calvino On previously censored passages and his newly translated unabridged preface in which Calvino brilliantly critiues and places into historical context his own youthful workThe Path to the Spiders' Nests is animated by the formidable imagination that has made Italo Calvino one of the most respected writers of our time. Something irreparable has happened to Pin now as irreparable as when he redacted due to spoilers Never again will he be able to return to the detachment never will he be able to go into action with them now It is sad to be like him a child in a world of grown ups always treated as an amusement or a nuisance and never to be able to use those exciting and mysterious things weapons and women never to be able to take part in their games But one day Pin will be grown up too and be able to behave really badly to everyone revenge himself on those who have behaved badly to him how Pin would like to be grown up now or rather not grown up but as he is yet admired and feared a child and yet a leader of grown ups on some marvellous enterprise The Path to the Nest of Spiders was Italo Calvino s first novel and it shows Not in a lack of uality even here Calvino is one hell of a writer but in that the novel lacks the experimentation or the singularity of purpose as displayed in his later works As Calvino points out in his prologue resistance novels were all the rage at the time and so he found himself writing a resistance novel Up until that point his short stories had all featured himself as the protagonist and he originally started the novel in the same way He found that it wasn t working and it was only when he revised the novel with the child Pin as the focus did it really work he also admits that he started out writing something shorter that turned into a novelThe inclusion of Pin and the prominence of his aloof independence his eagerness to find a friend or just to fit in the alienation his youth brings and the guarded innocence with which he approaches his interactions with the world bring a distinctly poignant perspective to the novel Pin moves through the resistance groups but is never truly a part of them but the interactions occurring around him highlight the disconnect between the other resistance fighters and their longing for acceptance and inclusion that matches Pin s ownSo the writing is good the general perspective is good but there really isn t anything here that really points the way to the writer that Calvino would become So it s interesting when Calvino says in the prologue This was my first novel almost my first piece of writing What can I say about it today I will say this it would always be better not to have written one s first bookAs long as your first book remains unwritten you possess that freedom which you can use only once in a lifetime Your first book already defines you while you are really far from being defined And this definition is something you may then carry with you for the rest of your life trying to confirm it or extend or correct or deny it but you can never eliminate it Because of course it s true that one can never eliminate their first book but Calvino never really allowed any one book to define him or his writing and always seemed to bring that freedom with him into each new book he wrote This is an interesting beginning but it s only a beginning where Calvino went from here is where things really get interestingreally this like 35 stars and I really leaned towards flat 3 but eventually just rounded up because it s Calvino I really hate rating books sometimes

Italo Calvino ↠ 2 Summary

Read Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno Read · PDF, DOC, TXT, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Free download Ì PDF, DOC, TXT, eBook or Kindle ePUB free ↠ Italo Calvino Italo Calvino was only twenty three when he first published this bold and imaginative novel It tells the story of Pin a cobbler's apprentice in a town on the Ligurian coast during World War II He lives with his sister a prostitute and spends as much time as he can at a seedy bar where he amuses the adult patrons Af. Calvino s first novel written shortly after his wartime experiences as a partisan His prevailing priority seems to be to debunk the myth of the noble heroic freedom fighter I can imagine its somewhat cynical tone would have caused a rumpus when first published in 1947 He states in the preface that his aim was twofold to launch an attack at both the detractors of the resistance and against the high priests of a hagiographic Resistance that was all sweetness and light Personally I saw a lot of the latter and little of the former And that very flimsy all sweetness and light doesn t strike me as a very credible premise against which to launch a counterattack No one s perfect and no one would make that claim for the partisans but they did fight the Nazis and for that alone don t warrant the mockery Calvino heaps on them here We see the war mostly through the eyes of Pin Pin is an orphaned child though far from innocent He lives with his sister who is the town s most notorious prostitute He entertains the menfolk by singing bawdy songs and insulting them Like most of the males in the town he is torn between siding with the fascists and the partisans Pin is like one of Calvino s fairy story characters drafted into a novel that aspires to providing objective realist commentary Often you can feel the strain of Calvino s attempt to anchor his imagination which always seems to be tugging at its leash To be honest I found his preface a lot fascinating than the novel In the 23 page preface he describes how the novel came to be written mentioning the unease he felt about this book for many years and the difficulties he underwent constructing it especially achieving the transition between Pin s picaresue village life and his enrolment in history when he joins the partisan band He also mentions books that are written solely to illustrate a thesis of which this novel is a little guilty At the same time he justifies it by admitting Pin was a self portrait that he dramatized what he himself felt about the war a sense of inferiority faced with the incomprehensible world of adults Calvino s sense of inferiority though stemmed from his middle class upbringing while Pin s centres on his age Calvino calls this a symbolic substitution Anyway the preface was brilliant the novel itself just okay
