Summary Museums Women and Other Stories (Museums Women and Other Stories) [PDF KINDLE] Æ John Updike The short story I Am Dying Egypt Dying is exceptional Also notable are The Deacon and The Orphaned Swimming Pool Interesting too that he has an Other Modes section for writings that aren't uite short stories but are well worth reading most of them comical; as well as his The Maples section for this period's thinly disguised autobiographical collectionmusings on marriage The collection as a whole is worth read

Read ´ PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Å John Updike Summary Museums Women and Other Stories ë PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free John Updike Å 5 Summary Ttes reflect the face of America in the fictional microcosm of Tarbox; the longest story a hallucinatory trip up the Nile allegorizes our foreign policy In the second section of the collection Updike tries on ten surreal. John Updike is not often categorized as an experimental writer yet here is proof in this book The book is divided into 3 sections The first section of the book features some of the typical high uality and beautiful prose that Updike was known for particularly the story The Orphaned Swimming Pool The thirdlast section of the book is centered around his famous fictional couple The Maples It is that second and middle section where we find Updike experimenting with prose and appearing to fail at it for the most part ie talking amoebas and phytoplankton prehistoric animals conversing with one another and sitting down to be interviewed There is nothing wrong with a writer who chooses to experiment with narrative forms but why did Updike do it here in this manner writing stories of talking animals just as a bored high school English student would do in a composition class Perhaps that is the answer Updike was bored Perhaps he had writer s block for a short period of time a few days a week a few weeks as he penned these stories searching his mind for a subject to write about as one turns over a rock looking for bugs I assume he had recently gone to a natural history museum and was thus inspired to pen these odd stories that make up the middle section of this book not knowing what else to write at that time to fill his daily uota of writing The book overall is a strange mix traditional Updike tales of suburbia juvenile shorts of talking animals the Maples stories and doesn t really form a cohesive whole or theme But then again the title of the book does offer you a hint of exactly what you are getting into Museums Women Other Stories
