Kate Chopin Ì 1 FREE READ READ Ü MAKANAT.CO Ì Kate Chopin FREE READ ò Kate Chopin Collection Shed in 1893 Chopin also wrote two novels At Fault 1890 and The Awakening 1899 which are set in New Orleans and Grand Isle respectively The people in her stories are usually inhabitants of Louisiana. I reas this book actually Kindle collection after reading The Awakening and other short stories of Kate Chopin in another collection This book has At Fault The Awakening and a very large number of short stories maybe even all of Chopin s published short stories Kate Chopin s The Awakening was billed as an early feminist novel but this aspect is not so apparent in the other stories in this volume At Fault is a charming novelette about a Creole widow and whether she will remarry The other stories likewise involve antebellum Louisiana There are a mix of races white black and Indian all embedded in the the French American culture The stories are almost all short vignettes often only a few pages long The characters are nearly all rural and unsophisticated they are treated with honesty insight and compassion albeit often with a touch of condescension The stories are all rather charming if a bit dated

Kate Chopin Ì 1 FREE READ READ Ü MAKANAT.CO Ì Kate Chopin FREE READ ò Kate Chopin Collection Kate Chopin born Katherine O'Flaherty 1850 1904 was an American author of short stories and novels She is now considered by some to have been a forerunner of the feminist authors of the 20th century. Setting Southern USGenre women s literary classicSolidly averageI m torn on the rating for this classic and I rated it mostly on The Awakening I read this novel 30 years ago in a women s not feminist lit class It made such an impression that the mere mention of Grand Isle Louisiana in a news story brought it to mind so I felt the need to read it again Bring it back fresh Remind me of Edna Pontellier and her awakening to her power But I was reminded as well how easy it was for a woman to lose herself in the late Victorian EraRegarding the uality of the writing I did not like that the point of view switched around willy nilly seemingly at the easy convenience of the author These changes in POV weren t just among main characters but even passers by had thoughts and opinions about the protagonists The POV was near omniscient and therefore somewhat scattered I found myself unable to connect with Edna unable to truly sympathize Another problem was that there was so much passivity in the narrative that I found myself reading in a desultory manner I didn t like that Mrs Chopin used the vernacular for when the POV switched to that of the housemaid and other non white characters Perhaps it was fine when the novel was first written but it seems caricature now this is true in other work in this collection as well the vernacular being so broad as to be incomprehensible when a black character speaks Yet not when a white Creole who would be mixing French with English in a distinct patois speaksOverall if you d like to visit or re visit a book from your college literature syllabus this might be good for that Mix it up with your book club by throwing this in for consideration It certainly raises uestions that are still relevant today though Edna s answer to her dilemma was rather facile in my opinion

Kate Chopin Ì 1 FREE READ READ Ü MAKANAT.CO Ì Kate Chopin FREE READ ò Kate Chopin Collection Her major works were two short story collections Bayou Folk 1894 and A Night in Acadie 1897 Her important short stories included Desiree's Baby a tale of miscegenation in antebellum Louisiana publi. Since this is a complete collection it is difficult to give a single rating since some of the novellas and short stories were really good and others were not so appealing This was a Kindle collection which had the most presentationedit errors I have seen bunches of typos grammatical errors and also alpha collections that made no sense The author liberally sprinkles cajun dialect plus French so that was frustrating since I have no understanding of either She is one of the earliest feminist writers and I enjoyed reading what was considered leading edge feminist writing at the beginning of the movement Since this was a full collection I won t be reading any of her work but would readily recommend smaller doses
